Alyssa Miserendino creates artwork as a catalyst for individual and collective transformation, drawing on 25+ years at the intersection of creative practice, technology, and academic inquiry. Inspired by paradox and connection, her work is informed by research in physics, philosophy, psychology, sound, astronomy, myth, magic and poetry. Driven by synchronicity, Alyssa meets collaborators on planes, through daily routine encounters and through the stories we share with one another.
Alyssa’s interdisciplinary approach bridges art (creativity) and science (analytical thinking), developing technology-driven solutions for public art, research, and community engagement. Her expertise extends to integrating custom technology, such as computer programming, laser engraving, locationally tracked EKG and EEG design - into sound, sculpture, murals, installations, video, and photography.
Her projects have transformed spaces from the sound of the Amazon jungle to Berlin, reimagining myth and memory through immersive, technology-enhanced experiences. Alyssa’s work has been supported by organizations including the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, ARUP, Genelec, DPA Microphones, and TED. She holds a Masters in Fine Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was awarded an undergraduate fellowship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago that provided her the opportunity to become the still film photographer for a short film in Rio de Janeiro.
Alyssa’s background in architecture and interior design, shaped by two decades as a designer and early experiences learning carpentry, fuels her passion for creating environments that blend aesthetics and function. She has worked collaboratively on film, performance and sound productions. Her 5th grade paper on black holes continues to drive her creative process.
As a visiting professor at Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, Harrington College of Design, and Guilford College, Alyssa has taught analogue and digital photography, art history, social practices, writing, and legal documentation for artists. She welcomes collaborations that advance the dialogue between art, science, and technology, and remains dedicated to fostering connection and transformation through her work.
